Rug Beater - Antique Rug Beaters
When you used to clean a rug back more than fifty years ago now, there was a device used called a rug beater. Before steam vacuums, rug shampooers, professional rug cleaning, and cleaning products, there was the rug beater to be the device to help clean rugs.
Even though this is an older method it can be used today.
Take the rug and put it over a line in the backyard like a clothes line and beat each side of it until the dust stops coming out. Then flip the rug back over and repeat. Despite vacuum cleaners being good technology, rug beating will actually get out more dirt than your vacuum can when done properly. The drawback is that this is quite a bit of work.
Antique Rug Beaters As Decoration.
Many of the old rug beaters are now being used as decoration today. They are fairly inexpensive as they are mostly just wood and wire. Many have been made into various shapes not intended for rug beating like that of animals, fruit, hearts, and others.
Consider using an antique rug beater and putting them on the walls for decoration. Hang them beside rugs that you may have hung on your wall or over other objects in the room. It will really give the room a nice old fashioned look.
You may even want to try one out for its intended purpose and see what results you get on your rug.
