Get Rid of New Rug Smell
Sometimes when you get a new rug is just doesn’t quite have the fresh smell of new carpeting. Sometimes with new rugs there are strange odors that just aren’t quite what you may have expected.
New rugs can smell from the dyes and coloring that may have been used on the rug. It could come from the odors that were in the warehouse or shipping facility. The backing on rugs can sometimes smell when you first get the rug.
The first step that should be done is to just vacuum the rug. This may get rid of the smell. It’s best to try not to use any chemicals and powders on the rug at first.
Before using any chemical on the new rug, test a tiny, tiny bit on a small part of the rug to see if it is going to change the color of the rug or damage it.
If carpet cleaner powder doesn’t damage it, use that and vacuum. A substitute for this is baking soda.
Another solution is to make a mixture of water and vinegar. Put this into a spray bottle and spray over the surface of the rug. Do a little bit at first then more later if the smell isn’t gone.
You can also just wait and the smells will eventually go away over time. Do proper care and cleaning like regular vacuuming and this will help your new rug last and not gain new smells.
