Fiber Lok Non Skid Rug Backing
What do you do if a rug starts to slide all over the floor and won’t stay in place? What happens to old rugs that used to not slide but not do because the backing has now worn out?
There are products that can actually replace or emulate the backing or old backing on rugs. One in particular is called Fiber Lok non skid rug backing. This is a rubbery product that will make it so that you can add a backing to a rug.
Some rugs don’t come with any backing at all. Some rugs used to have a backing but something like the heat of the dryer caused the backing to crack, fall off, or melt making it almost useless. This will help replace that backing again so you can keep using the rug.
How to use a product of this nature.
Clean the rug first so you don’t trap in old dirt or even bug larvae into the rug forever.
Lay down some newspaper so that you don’t ruin your flooring.
Flip the rug so that it’s bottom side is up.
Apply the rubber backing material. It’s better to make multiple light layers than one really thick layers. Think of it like you are painting when applying the product. Each coating must be applied within 12 hours of each other but after it is first dry.
Two things that you have to consider about your rug once this is applied and dried. You can’t dry clean the rug ever again or it will ruin this new backing. This backing doesn’t work as well when it’s on a wet surface, so if replacing a bathroom rug right out of the shower with this is not the best idea.
