Dealing With Cat Rug Problems - Cats Scratching The Rug - Cat Urine On Rugs
Cats can cause area rugs quite a few problems. They go into your living room or dining room and scratch at the rug and other furniture in the room. They can even get to the point of urinating and pooping on the rug. This is just a problem and a mess no one wants to have to deal with.
The cat is scratching the rug because that is what the cat feels most comfortable scratching. What has to happen is to replace this feeling with something else in the house. Use a cat scratch post or cat scratch pad that your pet will feel more comfortable using.
Reward them when you see them scratching this as opposed to other objects in the house to train them better. If you are concerned about the damage until the pet learns, consider trimming the claws.
Removing cat urine from the rug should be done as soon as you notice the stain. Start off by blotting the rug and applying pressure so that the paper towel or towel will get as much of the moisture as possible.
Use a cleaner that works for your rug. Be sure that the cleaner doesn’t have chemicals that will cause loss of color or fading in your rug.
Lastly use carpet freshener to help with the smell.
If the cat does this quite a bit, obedience training might be required as well as professional cleaning of the rug to get rid of all the urine and smell for good.
