Area Rugs Pile Height

Pile height should be something that you should consider when buying an area rug.  Depending on short pile or longer pile can make a difference in the life span and durability of the rug.

Pile height is a measurement from top surface of the backing to the end of the pile.  Just use a small ruler to check your pile height or check what it is on factory statistics before purchasing the rug.

Pile height matters because it effects cushioning, how easy the run is to clean, and how long the rug will last.  There isn’t one length of pile that’s superior to another height.  It’s just up to your own personal preference.

Shorter pile tends to last much longer than longer pile.  It’s less likely to catch onto something and be torn.  If you have high traffic over a certain rug go for shorter pile.  It’s also easier to vacuum since the pile won’t get caught in the rug.

Longer pile is much softer to walk on giving more cushioning.  Depending on your tastes, some feel that this is a more extravagent look.
