The 8′ x 10′ rug is one of the most common area rug sizes because for the most part it fits well under most dining room tables and is large enough for rooms with a sofa or two in them to actually match up with the size of the furniture.
Since this is the most common size of rug the 8×10 rug pad is one of the most sought after rug pads. But how does one get the right size of pad for this size of rug?
There are few schools of thought when it comes to getting the right size rug pad.
One group feels the need to find the perfect size pad just slightly smaller than the rug. This is important because if it’s the exact same size you will have problems because if the rug moves just a little bit the pad will be exposed.
The other group feels that you try to match the size of the rug, but cutting the pad is part of the process. If you find a good deal in padding and it’s not quite the size you are looking for, don’t fret over the wrong size. Just cut the pad into shape.
Padding is pretty important for your rug especially if under a dining room table. Hardfloors or carpet, the rug will take stress and pressure from something like a table and chairs scooting back across it during meal times. A pad will help extend the life of the rug considerably and can keep the flooring underneath nicer as well.
